My trip to France – Day 1 June 8th 2017

I had several days to kill and decided to get a hotel in Paris. I woke up at around 6am in the hotel room, it was one of those moments where I didn't really know where I was.

I ordered room service and sat and had breakfast and coffee to help wake me up. I then wondered over to to the curtains and pulled them open and there it was, an incredible view of the Eiffel tower and I kept just thinking to myself how lucky I was.

The rest of the day was pretty relaxed, I went for an afternoon run to loosen up the legs after my 25 hour flight from Australia. I planned on touring the city at night but the weather was literally horrendous. There was thunder and lightning and the rain was that type of rain that gets you really wet.

I decided it would probably best to stay inside, so I walked to an old-fashioned cinema that was so old it had blue paint literally falling off it. I ran in pretty fast but that didn't help because I was already dripping wet. When I got in the back of the cinema and looked down a small flight of stairs, it was practically empty apart from an elderly gentleman who was sitting at the front and was possibly in his 50's but looked much younger. Only reason I remember him was because of the stupid hat he was wearing.

The cinema looked so old. It was one of those cinemas where the seats were bright red and it probably hadn't been refurbished in about 50 years. The movie selection was very limited due to them all being foreign . So, I had to watch some classic in black and white. They had the 1941'Great Train Robbery on which wasn't ideal but better than being out in the rain. I don't remember too much about the movie to be honest because I was so jet lagged and fell asleep. All I remember is a bunch of guys riding 7 horses and chasing a train.

I left the cinema and luckily it had stopped raining and I was about 3 blocks away to the hotel. I suddenly realised I had left my key in my room and was locked out. My brain was obviously not functioning very well and I just kept thinking how good it's going to be when I arrive in Chamonix in 6 days. I went to the reception and struggled to remember my room number. Luckily, I'd saved a photo of it on my phone-
